7 Things to Adopt from Highly Successful People

1. Wherever your journey takes you, always come back to the plan

Life tends to pull us in all directions, sometimes simultaneously and really harsh! Our minds are designed to set us to survival mode, whenever it faces a struggle. Successful people keep in mind at all times, that real success emerges only when you remember your plan and get back on track at all costs! Don’t become a victim of your subconscious mind and let it take you on unnecessary paths. Successful people know that time is their most crucial asset.

2. Start the day with a routine

Many famously successful people – which happen to be very wealthy people – such as Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos mention the importance of a daily routine, that they stick to almost fanatically. This routine doesn’t necessarily need to be a very healthy one, however, it has to become a part of you. Bill Gates for instance famously starts his day with a can of Diet Coke, whereas Oprah Winfrey starts hers with a double espresso. Jack Dorsey of Twitter is famously known to start his day with a healthy breakfast, a clear to-do list, and a tough workout. You may see him jogging on the street instead of morning treadmill workouts.

3. See the potential in others around you

Successful people tend to stay away from negative people, unhappy people, and people with a fear of failure. Business leaders tend to spend time with effective people who don’t have a fear of accountability and who basically would like to take risks, just like they did decades ago.

They are extremely receptive to the enthusiasm in a person’s eyes and they are pulled towards this kind of behavior. Accomplished people are known to be surrounded by an entourage of others covering their shortcomings. When the business is at stake, they have no place for their own ego.

4. Check communications a couple of times a day

Most accomplished people can quickly switch between deep work and shallow work. They spend a significant amount of time on what they consider deep work, that requires extensive focus and a calm, relaxing environment for them to perform at their best.

Reading emails, attending meetings and other arbitrary tasks are, although they have to be done to flow in the business world, what is considered “shallow” work and should be avoided during the critical times of the day. Take their advice and stop checking your emails just out of boredom, you may find other things to secrete dopamine we are sure.

5. Do whatever it takes to get quality sleep

When it comes to sleep, quality matters more than quantity. Sleep heals us, recharges us and is an important part of your biology. One of the keys to success is to prioritize good sleep. Start unwind and switch off early in the evening so that you can fully disengage before bedtime. Disconnect from electronics, screens, and other devices. Read a book, play soothing music or listen to a motivational talk in order to get good sleep. Your body and your mind will thank you for prioritizing rest. You will be so much more effective.

6. Be self-critical

The idols inspiring you, have probably failed ten times more than you have. Each time they stood up and kept going on the goal they have fanatically identified for themselves. This is only possible when you take criticism and more importantly self-criticism seriously. There is no worse enemy for someone’s success than being locked up inside a comfort zone, believing everything you do is accurate and there are little to no improvement areas. That’s your life’s work after all right? If you fall into this trap, we can assure your success will become a miracle. Always take time to be self-critical and remember, you are only successful if YOU feel that way. Don’t be so easy to fool for yourself.

7. The future is not a solution to the present

Elon Musk has said once, that he was the most unsatisfied with one of his character features: his “Optimism”. Optimism is very dangerous especially when it affects your business and day-to-day decisions. Everyone can be optimistic for his football team to score another goal in the last 5 minutes of an important match, this is out of your control anyway. However “Wishful Thinking”, a form of optimism conditions your mind, that everything is going to be alright. Let us tell you. Nothing is going to be alright unless you get up right now and start doing something to make a change in whatever is not working right at this moment. Nothing ever will fix itself and successful people know that. Stop being a victim, witness to your life, and start taking action! Right Now!
